Intense Pulsed Light for Acne, Rosacea & Brown Spots
Do you feel self-conscious about your appearance due to pimples, acne scars, rosacea, or age spots? Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy offers a simple way to fade spots and reduce acne. Dr. J.C. Caballero helps his Warrenton, VA-area patients improve their appearance with IPL therapy and other effective treatments offered at Warrenton Dermatology & Skin Therapy Center.
How can IPL help me?
IPL uses broad-spectrum visible light pulses to eliminate redness, broken blood vessels, hyperpigmentation, and other common facial issues. It can be used to treat:
- Acne: IPL treatment kills bacteria and stops your body from producing too much sebum, a natural moisturizing substance that can clog pores. The treatment also increases collagen production and improves the appearance of acne scars.
- Rosacea, Spider Veins, and Broken Capillaries: The IPL device produces a heating effect that breaks apart red blood cells that cause redness. It also causes the destruction of problem blood vessels and capillaries without affecting healthy vessels.
- Age Spots, Freckles, and Hyperpigmentation: No matter what the cause of your dark spots or freckles, IPL offers an excellent solution. When targeted by the light pulses, pigments in the spots break up, and the darker areas of your skin soon flake off.
What happens during IPL treatment?
Before treatment begins, a cooling gel may be applied to your skin. Although IPL treatment isn't painful, your skin may feel a little warm when the light pulses pass over your skin. The cooling gel helps keep you comfortable during your treatment.
After putting on a pair of protective goggles, you'll relax while your Warrenton dermatologist passes the IPL handpiece over your skin. Treating a single area may take about 30 minutes. After your treatment, you can return to work or your usual activities. Your skin may look a little red for an hour or two, but you shouldn't experience any pain.
You may notice a difference in your skin after one treatment, but you'll probably need at least two to six treatments to enjoy the full effects of IPL treatment. Treatments are usually spaced about three to four weeks apart.
